AlignScan / Align STL
Tool
Align an STL file online
Drop a .stl scan into AlignScan and it is squared to the X, Y and Z axes automatically. Everything happens in your browser, so the file is never uploaded.
What happens to your STL
- Read locally. The file is parsed in a background thread of your browser. Large scans (100 MB and millions of triangles) are fine.
- Measured, not guessed. Flat faces, cylinder axes and symmetry are found by fitting planes through the mesh, then the smallest rotation that squares them to the axes is applied.
- Exported unchanged otherwise. In a binary STL the 80-byte header and the per-triangle attribute bytes are kept; only the normals and vertex coordinates change. ASCII STL keeps its line structure.
Made for STL scans
- Pick Z-up or Y-up for the next tool, and recenter by bounding box or centroid.
- See exactly which faces were locked, with the applied rotation in degrees.
- Fix anything the automatic pass got wrong with Manual mode: click a face, snap it to an axis or the floor.
- Undo and redo every step.
