About AlignScan

AlignScan is a free, browser-only tool that squares raw 3D scans to the world axes. It exists because levelling a scan by eye is slow and imprecise, and no web tool did it well.

How it works

Your file is read, analysed and re-exported entirely in your browser. The site is static files with no upload endpoint, and its content security policy forbids network requests to anywhere but its own host. See Privacy.

How it is funded

The tool is free. After you download a file the site suggests next steps (printing, CAD, mesh cleanup, better scanning gear) and some of those links are, or will become, affiliate links. See the affiliate disclosure. Suggestions are chosen by what a file usually needs next, not by who pays.

How accurate is it?

We measure it. On real scans and synthetic parts with known pose, locked flat faces typically land within 0.1 to 0.5 degrees of the axes, and every result shows what it locked onto with a confidence label. Harder cases (very noisy or partial scans, shapes with no flat faces) are labelled as such. If a result looks wrong, use the "Report a bad result" button: it emails anonymous diagnostics only, never your file.
